First day of the 20th Edition of Cartoon Movie: a record participation!
Cartoon Movie started on Thursday 8 March with the presentation of Marc Vandeweyer, Cartoon’s General Director, followed by our main partners of this 20th Edition: Virginie Calmels, Vice-President of Bordeaux Metropole and First Deputy Mayor, François Bonneau, President of Pôle Image Magelis, Eric Correia from the Region Nouvelle Aquitaine and Oscar Grafenhain, General Director of ICAA (Spain).
Second edition in Bordeaux and a record participation with over +900 participants from 41 countries: this represents an increase of 20% in two years!
With 302 films financed for a budget of 2 billion EUR, Cartoon Movie has a real impact on the market since its creation in 1999. 20 years ago, only 2 or 3 animated films were produced per year in Europe. Today, there are more than 15 films. This shows that the production in Europe has been multiplied by 5, since the launching of Cartoon Movie.
For the second year, a spotlight country has been chosen: Spain! With 9 projects selected this year, the country of honor is dynamic in the animation industry, Spain has produced many international successes like “Tad the Last explorer”, “Wrinkles”, …
This first day was really blazing with projects such as “The Bears’ Famous Invasion of Sicily” (Prima Linea Productions), “Dragonkeeper” (Dragoia Media), “Terra Willy” (TAT productions), “The Boy who switched off the Sun” (Fourth Wall Creative), “Elli and the Ghostly Ghost Train” (Zooper Film), “Unicorn Wars” (Autour de Minuit), …
We thank all our partners and wish you a successful second day at Cartoon Movie.
